I\'ve been seeing a lot of negative reaction about banning seniors from having sex in Nursing homes, Assisted Living and other senior care homes. Is this fair? One day most of us will be living in Assisted living facilities that\'s why it is important to voice out our concerns about this matter. I honestly do not think its right to ban sex in Nursing homes. Senior residents have the right to have sex. Besides this is good for the health. Why would Nursing homes and other senior care facilities ban sex? I just don\'t get it.

I don\'t think its fair. Seniors are human beings too...therefore should be given every right to do what they want to do for as long as they do not harm other residents in the senior housing facilities. They should be given privacy and allow them to express their emotions.

That\'s true residents of Nursing Homes, Assisted Living and other senior care facilities should be given privacy. However, it should depend on the patient\'s or resident\'s medical condition. If they are healthy and don\'t have any medical condition, then, of course they should be given the privacy to do what they want to do including having sex. BUT if they have medical conditions like late stage alzheimer\'s, then the facility should have an open door policy. Meaning, the caregivers can go in and out of the resident\'s room in order to check whether the senior is okay or not.

Therefore, I think it should be treated as a case to case basis depending on the resident\'s medical condition.

I am currently living in an assisted living facility and I love it here. I\'m lucky to have computer/internet access here to keep me busy That\'s why I am able to check my emails, this site and facebook, where I connect to my friends and family

In this assisted living facility, they are not really strict about sex. In fact, I am in a big assisted living facility with about 30+ residents. We all love it here. I believe that there are married couples in this assisted living facility and they share a room. But for some who are not married or are living alone, like me, we are allowed to invite friends and family members to visit us here. We are given privacy when the visit. You can always request for that if you feel that the caregivers are not giving you enough privacy. I don\'t think they prohibit sex in this assisted living, though they have not said anything to all of us directly. The owner and caregivers here are great. They give me space because they know that everyone needs privacy.

Depends. Should be case to case basis- depending on the senior\'s medical condition.

Also I want to add that according to my friend- she is a Gerontologist, she highly recommends sex for the elderly because it improves mood and even overall physical function, though there legal issues might complicate things. Everyone, including seniors have the right to have sex if they want to- but again if their health permits and if it\'s mutually agreed by both parties.
