TOPIC: Reducing the cost of prescription medications
Reducing the cost of prescription medications 1 year, 5 months ago #8562

I did two things this year to reduce the cost of my prescriptions. First, I had my doctor write my prescription for three months to reduce the number of co-pays I'm making.
The second thing I did is make sure that all of my prescriptions are for generics which are a fraction the cost of the name brands. By doing this I saved about $45.00 a month. |

That sounds like a good thing you did and more seniors should take a good look and see if they can do the same thing. Every little bit helps this day.

That was a nice savings doing it all that way and good for you for taking the time to figure it all out. And, I'm with you Zenia, more seniors who are on monthly prescriptions should try something like this to help them save.

Some of the generics are still pretty expensive. I recently could not afford to pay for mine when they told me that the cost was still going to be $116!

Oh my that is bad when you get a generic medication that still cost that much! I always try to make sure we get generics (which are usually cheap) and if it is something that my hubby or I are going to have to take for more then a few months, I will get a 3 month supply because it does come out a little cheaper.

I do without some of my meds occasionally when I can't afford them. I try to stretch them out and don't take them as I need to, sometimes.
