Economy has never been this bad since 1930s- great depression. I\'m so worried that I won\'t have that much money left in my 401k when I\'m ready to retire. How do I keep my money safe? Shall I stop contributing? Shall I sell? Any advise?

I know. The monday wallstreet meltdown scared me. Let\'s put it this way, if your employer is matching your 401k contribution, I\'d say continue putting money there. You\'re not losing anything because you\'re getting free money from your employer. But if your employer is not. I\'d say stop contributing if you\'ll need your money soon and if you\'re retiring soon. I\'m sure the economy won\'t recover for the next 5 years.

It\'s true that it\'s free money because my employer matches my contribution 100%. So I guess I\'ll continue to contribute to my 401k. I just hope that economy gets better soon.

The economy is getting really bad and it scares me too. I really don\'t know if my 401k is safe with this kind of economy. I\'m thinking of pulling it out and pay a penalty instead of losing all of it.

I suggest, hire a financial adviser. It might be better to pay an expert to manage your 401k and overlook things for you. That\'s what I did.
