How late in life can a senior act on using benefits he receives as a veteran? Will they assist him with a home purchase, knowing that he may not live long enough to pay them back?

This is a good quesiton Phil. I would think that once a veteran, always a veteran and always eligible for veteran benefits. Do let us know when you find out. Thanks!

To my knowledge, if a veteran has earned the benefit of a VA loan for a home and has never used that benefit, they are eligible to apply no matter their age. This would be good to verify. Anybody know for sure?

Actually VA Aid and attendance is a pension benefit for qualifying veterans or surviving spouses of veteran's. It can help pay for long-term health care expenses.

Here are the requirements:

The veteran must:

1. Have served in the Armed Forces on active duty for at least 90 days.

2. Have served at least one day of active duty during time of war.

3. Have received an honorable discharge

4. The veteran or surviving spouse of veteran require assistance with activities of daily living such as bathing, eating, dressing and walking
