My dad has alzheimer\'s. He\'s staying in a nursing home. Just a couple of months ago he loves it there, but for some reasons, he doesn\'t want to stay there anymore. Don\'t know what\'s wrong. According to his caregiver, dad is becoming grumpy and mean lately. I\'m working and can\'t afford to be my dad\'s full time caregiver. Any suggestions.

Alzheimer\'s patients go through different attitude changes. Where\'s your mom? Your dad might be too lonely or bored at the nursing home. Have you talked to your dad lately?

My step mom has alzheimer\'s. She\'s in the late stage and she barely talks. It is sad that there is no cure for Alzheimer\'s or a way to stop the progression. Cherish every moment with your dad. I know that medicare will pay for caregivers. Research on that. It will be nice to take care of your dad full-time and get paid for it.

It is indeed a sad fact that there is no cure for alzheimer\'s disease. Even its progression cannot be stopped... I think this change in his attitude or disposition is just the result of loneliness. Try visiting your father more often.

I agree. Might be due to loneliness. Try to keep him busy by attending several activities in the facility. Calling him several times a week might help.
