Hi,

I am supposed to be my mom\'s caregiver, but I am having a hard time caring for her. My mom has Alzheimer\'s but refuses to live with someone. She wants to do everything independently. She tells me that she doesn\'t need help because she is not a kid. What should I do to help my mom understand that I lover her and want to take care of her to make sure that she will be safe at all times. I tried to talk to her but she refuses to listen. Anyone in the same situation? I need help. Thank you.

I hear you. I am a caregiver and taking care of a senior woman in her 80\'s. Every time I try to help her, she gives me this mean look and tells me that she is still strong and can do things on her own. Her children hired me as a caregiver because they want to make sure that their aging mother is not alone.

I understand that as we grow old, we feel that we become more and more dependent on other people. I know that my patient doesn\'t want to feel old so she tends to do things on her own so I let her. Though, of course I make sure that I watch her just to be safe.

Thanks for your help. I\'ve been talking to my mom for several weeks now and finally I am able to convince her to live with me! What a progress. I\'ve been telling her how much I love her and that I don\'t want her living alone just in case something happens to her. I promised her that she can still do whatever she wants when she lives with me and promised her independence We both agreed that she can still participate in the Adult day program, which by the ways she loves!
